Where do Life Scientists get their Data?

Welcome to the Biotechnology Interactive Dictionary (eBID)!

What is eBID?

As technology continues to drive the evolution of scientific methodology, it will become paramount that librarians understand the manner in which researchers obtain their data to properly serve their constituencies.  Recognizing this need, the National Network of Libraries of Medicine New England Region compiled a collection of terms, definitions and links to common life sciences laboratory practices to help librarians understand this evolution.

eBID is ordered alphabetically, since it is a dictionary.  Within each laboratory practice, you will find:

- a short, hopefully concise definition of the laboratory practice

- a more comprehensive overview of the laboratory practice

- tutorials (preferably short) of the laboratory practice

- articles and other information resources expounding on the laboratory practice

Additionally, all laboratory practices' names or titles link directly to the MeSH term of the National Library of Medicine's controlled vocabulary thesaurus.  This is done to further aid in your search for other articles, as well as find historical and recent developments in the laboratory practice. 

This resource is designed to be interactive as new tools for obtaining data are always under development. 

Our hopes are that you will contribute to our professional development by:

- adding common laboratory practices that are not mentioned in this dictionary,

- adding emerging laboratory practices,

- providing other resources to help our understanding of how data are obtained,

- providing insights to what happens inside a laboratory to better understand the patrons' scientific workflow

We only ask that you follow the format outlined in the wiki (linking the practice to a MeSH term, short definition, broader overview, tutorials, and articles/information resources).
